Skywatch Friday – Itagi Mahadeva Temple

Written by Poorna & Brinda

Itagi Mahadeva – Not many go to this gem of a temple. Though close to Hampi, Itagi has not been on heritage circuit. This Chalukya temple is an epitome of sculptural heritage of later Chalukyas or Kalyani Chalukyas.

We were there last October as a part of our drive to Bijapur and Bidar. It was after noon when we reached the temple. There was no one except us in this beautifully restored temple. Archeogical Survey of India has done a commendable job here.

We clicked this picture when the sun in the west was providing nice lighting.

Itagi is off the Hospet – Hubli highway. Itagi and neighboring Kukkanur temples can be clubbed together for a nice day trip from Hampi.

Poorna & Brinda

We are Brinda and Poorna from Bengaluru, the “Silicon city” or “Garden city” of India.

We travel together. We caught the travel bug 20 years back. On our honey moon, we traveled over the sea, in the train, by bus and in an aircraft! Our adventures probably started in that year. It continues, ever since.
