Sakleshpur monsoon drive is soothing. Period!

By now you must be knowing that we love to drive. And we love to drive in the rain. Driving in Sakleshpur with its lovely meadows, pristine lakes and waterfalls is soothing to ones’ senses!

Monsoon drives have always been an experience we cherish. Last July, when HV Kumar, the doyen of road trippers wanted us to help in organising a monsoon drive, we jumped at the offer.

Our first recommendation to him was to drive to Sakleshpur from Bangalore. To its meadows, backwaters and waterfalls. We told him that we shall plan a nice route which will provide a real monsoon experience to people.

We decided on the route and Kumar was down in Bangalore to do a recee before finalising. Few die-hard road trippers – Aditya Hemmige, Deepak, Aditya Ramesh, Parag Sachania –  joined us and we were on the exploratory monsoon drive in Sakleshpur.

We started very early in the morning and were at Swathi Delicacy before Yediyur for breakfast at 7 AM. A quick breakfast and we hit the road. And what a drive it turned out to be! Let the pictures tell the story of the drive……..

The road and the clouds! A precursor to what was in store….

We take a detour to Holenarsipur at Channarayapatna. And first glimpse of Hemavathi river.

We drive for another few kilometres. We could see the back waters of Hemavathi. We find a dirt track leading to the water body and there we are. A lovely place!

The agricultural activity in full swing. The paddy seedlings ready for planting is a soothing sight!

Though it is cloudy, we are spared from continuous rain. It rains off and on. The wet condition means foggy roads.

The charm of Sakleshpur are these stretches of lovely meadows, fields, you come across when you drive. Lovely.

As we drive towards Kaaginahare, the landscape starts looking beautiful. We could spot beautiful lakes. Green fields getting ready for planting.

At Hongadahalli, we start exploring and Kumar turns towards Mookana Abbi Falls. On the way we could see him stopping on the road. The spot looks lovely from the top.

We reach the spot!

The stream flowing quietly on the other side while making a nice cascade on the opposite.

We take a U turn and drive to Moookana Abbi Falls. On the way back we click this panoramic shot!

The road to the falls is washed out and is a dirt track. Kumar tries to take his Scorpio but turn back. We park our cars and walk down. We come across a fast flowing stream. A small bridge on the stream gives a vantage point to enjoy the place. We could see the stream flowing down and creating the waterfalls. We walk carefully on the flooded banks. We can see only a start of the falls. To see the waterfalls in full glory we have walk down on the wet rocks. We decide not to do that. It is too risky.

We now head to Kaginahare.

And reach the lovely meadow of Kaginahare! This is a very special place. There was no one except us. A vast meadow with a small pond in the middle. Flanked by hills and forests!

From Kaginahare, we return back to Sakleshpur. Not before we stumble upon the lovely meadows in front of Eka resort. Many duets of South Indian movies have been shot on these meadows! Isn’t this place romantic?
